Think of it like an MOT for your home. You wouldn’t leave your car 20 years without having it checked over would you? So why would you leave your electrics?
We advise homeowners to have an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) as a minimum every 10 years, depending on the condition of the current wiring system. ( Different rules apply for landlords and rental properties but we will discuss that in another post )
Whilst it’s not a legal requirement for most people your insurers may stipulate that it’s done at regular intervals and you may be asked to have an EICR carried out upon sale of your property.
An EICR can identify things like damaged wiring , loose connections and pre existing faults within your home’s wiring.
